Route 66 Roadtrip

California to Kentucky

I drove nearly 2,700 miles in one week in a move from San Francisco CA to central Kentucky. Driving I-40 and historic Route 66 (which often overlap) for the majority of the trip, I got a real taste of old Americana and a beautiful sampling of landscapes across the southwest and south. Below is a small portion of my photos and I have included text links to other sites for more information. Continues on page 2.

Above and right: These photos are from one of the most scenic and well preserved stretches of old Route 66. Running 50 miles between Needles CA and Kingman AZ, it winds through rugged desert and abandoned mining areas.

An additional photo from the Arizona desert as seen from Route 66.

If you stop here and stand on the corner, you will hum the Eagles for the next 200 miles.

Tower Conoco Station, Route 66 in Shamrock TX. Recently restored to its 1935 condition, although it is not yet in operation (planned museum and tourism office).

Above and below: The colorful and unique Cadillac Ranch near Amarillo TX. Come visit and add your own graffiti if you can find a blank spot.
