I did not have very much time to explore China as I just made a week-long stopover in Beijing between a visit to Mongolia and having to return to Korea for work.  I liked it even though it rained the whole time I was there, in fact the pictures from the Forbidden City and the Great Wall were taken on two of the clearer days. But, on the upside, it made all those touristy sites way less touristed.  The Great Wall pictures are all from Mutianyu, about 2 hours north of Beijing and easily accessible by public bus and a short taxi ride.
